Things to see in Lucca

Giunigi tower, Lucca
Lucca is a beautiful city in Toscana. What to see in Lucca? Let's start!
Starting from the train station, cross the street and follow viale Regina Margherita until you see the door to enter in the city. Take via Vittorio Veneto and you will reach Piazza Napoleone, a large square surrounded by trees and where you can admire the Ducal Palace.

Turn right in via del Battistero, turn right again then left in via Duomo that will lead you to the Duomo of Lucca (Cathedral of St Martin), begun in 1063, and the Campanile. In the nave there is a little chapel made of marble, called "tempietto" (little temple), where the Holy Face of Lucca is located. It is a wooden crucifix mentioned in the Divina Commedia. The Cathedral also contains Ghirlandaio's Madonna and Child with Saints Peter and Tintoretto's Last Supper. In the portico is embedded a maze, of the 12th century with a Latin inscription referring to pagan mythology.

Cross now Piazza Antelminelli and take via delle Tombe, turn right in via Santa Croce then left in via San'tAnastasio until you reach Guinigi Tower, the most important tower of Lucca. You can climb up the 225 steps and reach the roof where there is a hanging garden and from where you can enjoy the amazing view of the city and surrounding hills.

Anfiteatro square at night, LuccaProceed now in via Canuleia that will lead you to Piazza dell'Anfiteatro  full of bars and shops. Cross the square and take Via Fillungo then turn right in Via degli Angeli and visit Palazzo Pfanner  a palace built in 1660 and an excellent example of baroque garden, with its flowers, forest plants, 18th century statues of Greek deities. The ticket to visit both palace and garden costs 6 euros (the garden is open from April to October).
Go now in via degli Asili and follow it to Piazza San Michele an important square of Lucca and where people usually meet. Take via Barletti to reach the medieval Clock Tower then take via Fillungo and go straight to return to via del Battistero and to go back to the train station. If you still have time i strongly suggest to reach the wall and walk along it.

Hope you enjoy the itinerary!
