Good morning everyone, today I'm gonna tell you what you can see and do in Sorrento. Sorrento is a very famous tourist destination and it is one of the most important place of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It is easily reachable from Naples by car, train or bus and it is a must see of your Italy trip. Let's start!
Sorrento is near Naples but it is not famous for its beaches because it is on a cliff. But there are plenty of attractions to see in this beautiful municipality. You can start wit the Sorrento Cathedral, a church built on the remains of an ancient Greek temple. It has a Neogothic façade and here was baptized the famous Italian poet Torquato Tasso. For more information visit the official site of Sorrento Cathedral.
Not far from the Cathedral there is the Santuario della Madonna del Carmine, built in 1572 over an ancient church built in the 2nd century.
Between these two churches there is a place that is really worth visit, the Vallone dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills). This valley originated 35.000 years ago and it's named like this because of the ancient mill, used in the past to mill the wheat. Due to its position the place has now the 80% of humidity and it's impossible for humans to live there, but that helped the growth of many trees and plants many of which are very rare. The view is breathtaking, i strongly suggest to visit it.
Sorrento is famous for its lemons so you can visit the Agruminato, a lemon garden in the center of Sorrento. It is also known as the Giardini of Cataldo and here you can admire hundreds of lemon trees, sit on one of the benches to relax and at the end of the garden you can buy some typical lemon products such as jam or the typica lemon liquor, limoncello. For more information visit the official page of the Giardini di Cataldo.
