Florence is a beautiful city with a lot of things to do and see that you must visit during your travel to Italy. But if you just have one day to spend visiting this amazing city, here you are a walking tour with the things you can't miss. Unfortunately, you will not be able to visit museums as this activity takes a lot of time.
Visit Florence in one day, is it possible?
Let's start our itinerary from the Santa Maria Novella train station: from there you can walk to the Florence's Cathedral, the Duomo (Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore), where you can appreciate the Giotto's Campanile (bell tower), the dome built by Brunelleschi and the Baptistery. The entrance to the Duomo is free.
You can then reach Piazza della Signoria, with the Palazzo Vecchio overlooking the square. There are many sculptures here, among them a copy of the Michelangelo's David while the original one is in the Galleria dell'Accademia. You can also see the Loggia dei Lanzi, an open-air sculpture gallery where you can find the famous Cellini's Perseus. In front of the Palazzo Vecchio you can see the Fountain of Neptune. Visit then the Uffizi's Gallery.
I suggest a little rest now. You can have lunch in one of the many restaurants in the area or in one of the many cafés that also offer lunch. There is a variety of places where you can go to eat, from cheap ones to the most expensive ones.
After lunch walk alongside the lungarno, reaching the Ponte Vecchio where you can find many jewelery shops. Cross the bridge and then go back and turn left alongside the lungarno and proceed until Via de Tornabuoni where there is the Santa Trinità Church. Continue now in Via de Tornabuoni, one of the most elegant streets in Florence's city center where you will see many Armani or Prada shops.
Reach now Piazza Santa Maria Novella with the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella. From there you can reach the train station.
Don't forget to stop in one of the many cafés in the city to taste the original Italian gelato artigianale or a good espresso which will give you the energy to continue your visit.
Hope you enjoy this itinerary!
