What to see in one day in Madrid

Debod Temple, MadridGood mornin, today another day in Spain, specifically in Madrid the capital. I will provide you a one day walking tour with suggestion of things to see and do in Madrid in just one day. Let's start!

We'll start from Debod temple which is an original Egyptian temple translated to Spain. It was a gift that Egypt made in 1968 to Spain (and other 3 countries) because it helped Egypt to save some endangered temples. The Debod temple dates back to the 2nd century b.C and it was situated near the Nile river. Now you can visit it and the entry is free. More information on opening hours on the official site of Madrid tourism.
Follow Calle Bailén and reach the Royal Palace (Palacio Real). The Royal Family doesn't actually live there, the palace is only used for state ceremonies. The palace was built on the site of a 9th century ancient fortress: mayrit. You can reach it by underground, at Opera stop. You can visit it for a 11 euros euros (or less, depending on which tour you choose), more information at the official page.
Almudena Cathedral (Madrid Cathedral)
Near the Royal Palace there is the Madrid Cathedral or Almudena Cathedral, built in 1879. It has a Gothic style and the inside has a Neo-Gothic style with statues of contemporary artists. It also has chapels and a crypt with a 16th century image of the Virgin of Almudena. For more information about opening hours and tickets visit the official page of Almudena Cathedral.
Follow Calle mayor and you will find Plaza Mayor (Main Square) which originated in the 15th century. In the past it hosted the main market, today is the main square of the city, full of tourists. At the center you can admire the statue of Filip III, sculpted by the famous artist Giambologna. Proceeding in Calle Mayor will lead you to Puerta del Sol (Gate of the Sun) one of the busiest place in Madrid as it is the center of the streets of the city.
Bear sculpture at Plaza del Sol, Madrid
It was one of the gate in the wall the surrounded the city in the 15th century and it is called like this because it was oriented to the East and so it is decorated with a sun. It is surrounded by famous buildings such as the Post Office, the statue of Charles III of Spain, and the statue of a bear with a tree which is the heraldic symbol of Madrid.

That's what you can see in just 24 hours in Madrid, hope you enjoy this itinerary. Bye!
